Services to Youth

The Services to Youth facet uses an integrated approach to prepare young people to succeed as healthy citizens in the global workforce and to promote healthy lifestyles within families and communities. In support of The Links’ mission to enrich and enhance the lives of black youth, the primary goals of this facet are to:

  • Close the achievement gap from pre-K through college, with the intent of preparing our youth for the global workforce as healthy citizens

  • Develop training modules for local pre-K through college mentoring programs, to ascertain a high level of support for youth in our communities

  • Expand and support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education

  • Promote and support historically black colleges and universities for ensured sustainability


2023 Scholarship Application

The Youngstown (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated., will award scholarships for graduating high school seniors from Trumbull and Mahoning counties, meeting the following criteria below.

FOUR TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED:

1.     HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITY  SCHOLARSHIP*

2.     THE ENDOWED LINKS SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

  • Minority student of African ethnicity

  • Graduating High School Seniors from high schools in Mahoning or Trumbull County

  • Grade point average of 3.0 or above

  • Submit official High School Transcript

  • Two letters of recommendation from former teachers or principals

  • An essay of 150 words or more about the following topics:

    • How would receiving this scholarship impact your life?

    • What are your future plans after high school GRADUATION?

    • What are your future plans after college GRADUATION?

  • Application must be submitted by deadline MAY 18, 2022.

  • *Provide Acceptance letter of a Historically Black College or University- if Applying for the HBCU Scholarship

    3.     LINKS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 

    CRITERIA:

  • Be a minority student of African Ethnicity.

  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.

  • Be enrolled full-time at a university or college

  • Must be a high school senior enrolling at Youngstown State University.

4.     LINKS MENTAL HEALTH STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

(For students pursuing a degree in SOCIAL WORK attending YSU)*CRITERIA:

  • Student is pursuing a degree in Social Work.

  • Be a minority student of African Ethnicity.

  • Minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

  • Must be a Mahoning County Resident Apply.

  • Be enrolled full-time to receive $1000 or Part time to receive $500 scholarship at Youngstown State University

    • * high school seniors enrolling at YSU and current YSU students eligible to apply.

  • Additional Criteria Required for all applicants - In addition to the above criteria all student must submit the following:

  • Submit official High School transcript or proof of current enrollment.

  • Two letters of recommendation from former or current teachers or principals

  • An essay of 150 words or more about the following topics:

    • How would receiving this scholarship impact your life?

    • What are your future plans after high school GRADUATION? (High school senior only)

    • What are your future plans after college GRADUATION? (High School  senior and Current College Student)

  • Have completed FAFSA -financial need is also a consideration

  • Links or immediate family members (spouse, daughter, son, siblings, or grandchildren) shall not be permitted to apply for the Youngstown (OH) Chapter Scholarship.

  •  Application must be submitted by deadline Thursday May 18, 2023.
