The goal of HHS is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health and the elimination of chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.

Black K.A.R.E.

Kidney Awareness, Resources, and Education

 

The Youngstown Links Chapter funded project, Black Kidney Awareness, Resources, and Education (K.A.R.E.), is focused on kidney health to increase awareness and knowledge about chronic kidney disease (CKD) and how to prevent it or slow the progression if you already have CKD. The project goal is empower others to take charge of their own care with a healthcare team.

 

Black Americans are almost four times as likely as White Americans to develop kidney failure.

While Black Americans make up about approximately 13 percent of the population, they account for approximately 35 percent of the people with kidney failure in the United States. Source: National Institutes of Health

 


300 Sisters in Red

Our 18th Annual 300 Sisters in Red program was held on March 25, 2023 and was a huge success! The event was held at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center from 8am - 2pm. This year’s theme was “ Health Empowerment - Keeping Pace with Advancements”. The day was filled with break out sessions, informational booths, prize drawings, health evaluation booths, and a live Zumba class taught by Kelly Frazier. Our Keynote Speaker was Heather Heutsche, CNP speaking on “Innovations in Diabetic Care”.
